Welcome to My Portfolio
Bridging Precision CAD Design, Advanced Geospatial Technology & Hands-On Fieldwork Across Western and Northern Canada

Hello and welcome! I’m Trevor Wotherspoon, a Senior Civil Technician with over 30 years of experience (since 1994). My career has been dedicated to designing, mapping, and supporting critical civil, municipal, and environmental infrastructure across remote Northern communities.
What drives my work every day is the challenge of combining advanced office design tools with practical, boots-on-the-ground field exploration. Whether I am building complex 3D digital terrain models in Civil 3D, flying a drone to generate photogrammetric site models, or taking water samples at a remote remediation site accessed by float plane, I love bringing infrastructure concepts to life

1. Civil & Municipal Infrastructure Design
Water & Wastewater Systems: Designing water treatment plants, intake pipelines, sewage lagoons, and passive filtration systems tailored for harsh Northern climates[5]. (Highlight: My civil design and survey work on the Inuvik Water Treatment Plant helped earn the 2017 Willis Award for Innovation[5]*.)*
Roads & Drainage: Utilizing Civil 3D for 3D surface modeling, quantity calculations, and plan-profile drafting for municipal paving programs, highway access, and community-wide drainage upgrades[9].
Solid Waste Facilities: Preparing detailed designs for landfill expansions, biopiles for hydrocarbon soil remediation, and lined landfarm containment cells[5].

2. Advanced Surveying, Drone Photogrammetry & Geospatial Data
UAV / Drone Piloting: As a certified drone pilot, I capture high-resolution aerial photography and generate 3D photogrammetric models for site reporting, progress tracking, and visual inspections[1][5].
RTK GPS & Bathymetric Surveys: Executing high-precision topographic layout surveys on land and bathymetric mapping across Northern lakes and lagoons to support engineering designs[1].
GIS & Spatial Analysis: Leveraging ArcGIS/ArcMap for rural utility constraint mapping, community infrastructure planning, and regional spatial analysis[16].

3. Environmental Site Assessments & Field Operations
Phase I, II, & III ESAs: Conducting field reconnaissance, historical audits, hazardous materials assessments, and volume estimations for site remediations[7].
Remote Field Logistics: Hands-on experience coordinating remote site access and sampling networks via float plane, snowmobile, ATV, boat, and foot[4].
Groundwater Monitoring: Designing monitoring well networks across remote communities and managing long-term environmental trend databases[21][22].

4. Community Planning & Interactive Media
Land Use & Zoning Mapping: Producing user-friendly zoning maps, official community plan layouts, and subdivision design sets[16].
Multimedia Production: Authoring interactive technical communication CDs, editing environmental study video footage, and embedding underwater sediment tracking graphics[17][24].
The Northern Experience
Working in the North requires adaptable design strategies, regulatory expertise, and an understanding of remote logistics[2]. Over my career with Dillon Consulting Limited, I have had the privilege of supporting more than 40 projects for the Government of Nunavut, alongside federal agencies (PSPC, AANDC, DFO), territorial governments (GNWT, GN), and dozens of Northern municipalities[2][3].
