This project was straightforward. The first challenge was that the client did not want to use piles and that the pad needed to be constructed on bedrock. There was a significant amount of earth to be removed to the bedrock layer. As well, they did not want to blast (for permitting and expense). After a few iterations, it was determined that a small portion of the site would be blasted but also be incorporated in site landscaping. My job was to optimize the site to reduce costs, provide drainage solutions, and also have a site that could be expanded. Other challenges included traffic movement and achieving parking requirement.
